Celebrations!
Something my family and I celebrate is when we go to Lorne which is on the Great Ocean Road. We go to Lorne every summer holidays after Christmas because my family owns a beach house down there. It is usually a two hour drive but sometimes it can get up to three hours if the traffic is bad. My family and I aren’t the only ones that stay down there. My Cousins, Aunty, Uncle and even my Grandfather comes down too since he owns the place.
Some things that I enjoy doing down at Lorne are going to the beach because I enjoy surfing with my brother and sister. I also like watching the older kids skate in the skate park because it is really cool watching them do all their tricks on their skateboards.
A special memory I have at the time I’ve been down at Lorne was when I was doing Nippers which is a Life Saving Competition and I came first in every race and I was the Club Champion for my age group. I was so proud of myself for not only coming first but trying my hardest and having so much fun.
As much fun it is in Lorne it can get really hot which isn’t the most pleasant time of the year, but if you put that aside it is awesome in Lorne. Some other fun activities you can do are bouncing on in ground trampolines and playing mini golf with friends and family. There is also a lot of king parrots and we feed them bird seed which is also fun.
There is also a place called Erskine Falls in Lorne which is where you can climb rocks and look at the waterfall. My family also plays cricket on the beach and I always dive for a catch and hurt myself when I land on the sand and everyone laughs.
Camp Toonallook!
This term our class went to Toonallook for the first time. Toonallook is near South Gippsland lakes and it was really hot. On the first day the whole class competed in the photo rally. You were in groups of 2 or 3 and you had to find the real place that you were given in the image.
On Wednesday we got split up into 2 activity groups. My group did bike riding first while the other group did kayaking. Then we switched and kayaking was definitely my highlight of the trip.
On Thursday we started by catching a boat to Paynesville which is were did some fishing. Unfortunately we didn’t catch anything other then jellyfish. Then we got a boat over to Raymond Island to go for a bike ride and we saw a lot of koalas.
On Friday we finished off with the Toonallook Challenge which included 6 different activities, but in the end it was 8-8. Some other fun events include playing king ball, camping in tents (Expo), seeing a kangaroo, the shoe game and exploring Toonallook for the first time.
One of the Positive Learner Attributes I used while at Toonallook was Connectedness. I used connectedness when Henry and I worked together to put up the tent that we would sleep in.
What is the name of your favourite camp?
What was your favourite thing to do while you were there?
Avatar
I made this as my avatar because I have brown messy hair most of the time just like this one shows and I also have brown eyes. I made a very colourful background because I enjoy looking and working with loads of different colours. I used the app my avatar to make mine.
Sovereign Hill Camp!
Sovereign Hill was awesome. I loved every second of the three days we were there. The school program was so much fun and I learnt so much about how children would have gone to school in the 1850s. My favourite bit about the school program was wearing the costumes and using the ink to write. I also loved when Father Downing came in and started making everyone laugh.
All the shops on the main road were also amazing. I think it was the one time I was actually excited about looking in the shops. The lollie shop was definitely my favourite because we got free samples and they were so yummy. I also liked the candle making store because it looked really cool when you dipped your candle in the colours and then as soon as you put it in the water it was dry.
The bowling centre was AMAZING. The most pins I got in one bowl was five. I found it so heavy and hard to throw the ball on the the course. It was a lot of fun watching everybody else do it though. Some of the emotions I felt were surprised because there was a lot more lollies then I thought there was and I also felt nervous when Father Downing was coming in even though he was pretty funny.
Something I learnt while I was at the school program was how to gold pan. I thought it would have been so much more complicated but it was easy once you got the hang of it and I found some for the class set. Something else I learnt was how to write in copperplate. I thought it was really fun!
How did you find Sovereign Hill?
Holiday Blog #3
This week has been awesome. In Puglia we went to a beach that had a huge bridge above it. There were lots of rocks and I jumped off a rock that was 6 meters to the water. The view was amazing from the beach into the water.
Another highlight was when I walked up a waterfall that had 260 steps. The thing that is special about the waterfall is that it only runs 10 times a year. We were really unlucky because the waterfall ran 6 days before we were there.
Then we flew to Greece. We went into Santorini first and there were so many amazing views and incredible sunsets. The first highlight I did was an 8 kilometre walk along the ridge which joins several of the small villages. It was tiring but fun at the same time and the views were great.
Then the next day we went on a sunset boat cruise in the afternoon. It was probably my favourite thing of the holiday so far. We got to stop and swim at three different beaches, including the hot springs and I jumped off the side of the boat. We also got to watch the sunset from the boat. My favourite Greek food it probably souvlaki.
Holiday Blog #2
The past week of my holiday has been awesome. We have been to two different houses since my last post. I am now currently staying near Lecce which is the capital of Pulgia.
A highlight this week is when we went to Otranto. There was a very large church. At the back of the church there were all these skulls for the people that died when the Turkish invaded the town.
Another highlight is when I went to a beach called Porto Miggiano and we could jump off a rock into the water. Then we would swim too a grotto which is like a cave and explore.
My favourite beach so far has been Cala dell’Acquaviva where you could just keep jumping off the rock.
We went for a walk to explore the coast line. The view was very similar to the 12 Apostles. My favourite food so far would probably be seafood.
Holiday Blog
So far my holiday has been really fun. I finally got to Italy after three flights. The last week we have been going to the beach or staying around the pool.
We hired a paddle boat twice and the first time we had a wonderful time because the water was so warm to swim in but the second time we hired it there were so many jellyfish in the water. We still went in which probably wasn’t a great idea because after a minute my Mum got stung.
Then the next day we went to a different beach and we were swimming from a cave all the way into shore. Then I built a rock sculpture on the sand.
I have also been going into a lot of churches. One of them was in a cave and it looked amazing. Another highlight so far is the sunsets. The one I saw a couple of days ago was very unusual because all of a sudden fireworks started to go off. It was very interesting though because they tied in with the colours of the sunset.
I hope the year 5 market goes well.
Market Stall Poster
On Tuesday the 11th of June all the Year 5 students are hosting a year 5 market. We have made a lot of products from recycled matrials. Any money we raise is going to the JMB Foudation. We hope everyone is amazing on the day.
Term 1 Reflection
Term 1 has been amazing but it’s so sad that it’s gone so quickly. One of my biggest highlights of the term has definitely been APS. The triathlons we did really pushed me and I managed to finish. Rock Climbing has also been fantastic.
I have learned a lot this term but one of things I have learned the most is division. The bus stop strategy has definitely helped me work on my division.
One of the positive learner attributes I have used is resilience. I used this when I swam my 50m freestyle and came last in the swimming carnival but I was resilient and I kept going and tried my best in the next races.
Something else I have liked this term has been seeing my buddy at house and I the yard. He has been very nice and supportive and he also likes sport which is one similarity we have.
How has your term been?
Grandfriends Day
Grandfriends day was fantastic this year and I had an awesome time with my grandma. I think we both had a wonderful time together and enjoyed playing math games.
I think she enjoyed the target number game more because it got her brain thinking and she found it really hard and interesting to get the target number.
I got the target number a couple of times and she got it once. Then I showed her how I work out multiplication sums and she found it really confusing. How was your grandfriends day?
